To celebrate five years of working together for the benefit of biodiversity, business and local communicities, HeidelbergCement and BirdLife International have launched an online Partnership Project Map displaying a selection of their collaborative projects around the world.

Started in 2011, the HeidelbergCement and BirdLife International partnership has seen the development of many exciting projects to promote biodiversity in quarries and to maximise conservation and land management within the building materials sector.

In September 2016 an interactive online map was launched to celebrate the progress of projects undertaken with the support of BirdLife partners at HeidelbergCement sites to improve local biodiversity at mining sites by working with local communities, environmental authorities and scientists.

The Partnership Project Map provides an up to date visual narrative of our global partnership. Each project is pinpointed geographically on the map and linked to beautiful photos and short summaries detailing project goals , activities and results. You can search for projects by location or according to category: Animals; Plants & habitats; Community outreach; and Land management.

Our successes in each of these four key areas clearly demonstrate how partnerships between businesses and NGOs can bring economic activities into harmony with protecting our planet. Partnerships such as ours are key to the success of modern restoration concepts. Cooperation with stakeholders such as licensing authorities, the general public and nature conservation groups builds awareness for opportunities to enhance biodiversity at mining sites.

Discover the partnership project stories and successes for yourself by navigating through our Partnership Project Map. We’re confident that you will share our enthusiasm! And, if you have an inspirational project to suggest at a quarry or gravel pit near you, don’t hesitate to get in touch! Some of the projects on the map started as part of the Quarry Life Award - could yours be next?
